Friends!
So, I'm at work this morning, out and about, getting samples for some lab work. I opened the door to one of the pumping plants and almost stained my shorts when this tiny object fluttered out! It was a Little Brown Bat.
I bet he passed a little guano, too.
He flittered down to the ground and of course my first thought was: PICTURES!
He was SO tiny and light, and his fur was silky soft.
He had translucent fuzzy wings.
Check out those tiny toes! They were surprisingly strong.
I didn't get a photo, but when he opened his mouth I saw his teeny-weeny fangs! Don't worry, he didn't want to drink my blood, Little Brown Bats eat insects. In fact, there are several bat houses on the property.
He flew off after a few minutes, no doubt cussing me out for disturbing his nap.

Whoa, I bet that was a startling encounter for both of you! Such a cute little dude, though. And how cool that he let you hold him!
Mmmmmmm. I bet he tastes just like chick-hen. Muah-ha-ha!
You're cool. MY Human would have run away screaming like a little girl.
You are very brave! Even though he's cute, I would have been terrified of that little bat! They fly around at night when we go for a walk and they totally give me eebie jeebies!
Awwwww he is a beauty!!! Awww Trish!! You are so lucky to hold one!! Here, you have to be licenced to handle bats (cos they are so endagered and fragile and just gorgeous!!!! I added the last bit myself! LOL!) Awwwww yay for bats!! Beautiful pics, thank you for sharing! take care

p.s. I misspelt "endangered". Ahem. I need my coffee! x
Little brown bat is so cute!
wow!! i've never seen a real bat before, but when i see them on tv, they're always big and scary looking. that creature is adorable!! i'm glad you got some pictures of him before he went on his way. what a sweetie!!
He's awfully cute, our mom says. Though we, too, would love him for a "pet." Ha.
One of the mom's co-workers occasionally gets bats in his condo; recently one ended up under his fridge (long story). But when he went home after work it was gone. Not sure how this fellow can be so complacent...The mom would have to rescue the bat and get it OUT of her house ASAP. LOL.
So cool!!! We have lots of bats flying around our area at night, but I've never seen any that close before.
I love brown bats!
the brown bats here on the east coast are disappearing, almost completely gone from disease :(
Oh, it is so cute! I love the tiny little brown bats. My Uncle is the Facility Manager at the Catholic Boys school and they get inside the school sometimes. He catches them and then I take them to a bat rehabilitator that works through our local zoo. They are so sweet and do such great work on the bugs. (PS, I'm Mumsy to the Kwee Cats.)
oh wow, neat surprise.
OHHHHHHHHHH MY GOD YOU ACTUALLY TOUCHED THAT THING!!!!??????
I would have run screaming into the sunset. Damn you are brave!
I want one!
Oh BATS are the COOOLEST thing EVAR!!!!! I am soooo jealous you got to hold one!!! I want to hold a fruitbat! Oh I'm so geekin out!

Oh he is beautiful! I don't understand why folks are scared of bats ~ they are lovely wee creatures.

Oh he's darling!
I think it's the "startle effect" that creeps people out about bats, although I've never actually encountered one. I tend to think all critters are cute.
But he really is adorable.
Teeny tiny fangs...squeeee!
sss's mom
I want a pet battybat with cute toes and fuzzy wings
bonks
::thud::
Passed out. Too much cuteness.
Oh wow! I love bats. And I am designing a bat brochure for our local stewardship council and have been trying to find reference photos of bats. These are GREAT!!!
Clearly I am in the "bats are amazing and fascinating" camp, as opposed to the "bats make me want to run screaming from the room" camp. :)
We had a little black bat in the living room a few years ago. When he flew, it was absolute silent. Amazing. Finally got close enough to get him into a box then released him.
The cats were amazed, I was a little nervous.
Trish, thank you immensely for that great attitude toward them. xoxoxoxoxo
